Featured Artist · Utah
Joel Gardner is a Utah-based contemporary mixed-media artist whose work emerges at the intersection of art, science, and human experience.
Rather than relying solely on traditional painting techniques, he combines paints with chemical agents, heat, glass, and reflective materials to initiate reactions that become part of the composition itself. Materials mix, repel, fracture, flow, and transform — introducing an element of unpredictability that allows each work to evolve organically.

Joel Gardner
Featured Artist · Utah
Joel Gardner is a Utah-based contemporary mixed-media artist whose work emerges at the intersection of art, science, and human experience.
Gardner’s experimental process is central to his work. Rather than relying solely on traditional painting techniques, he combines paints with chemical agents, heat, glass, reflective materials, and other media to initiate reactions that become part of the composition itself. Materials mix, repel, fracture, flow, and transform — introducing an element of unpredictability that allows each work to evolve organically.
A self-taught artist and lifelong collector of art, Gardner returned to his own creative practice after years devoted to medicine and raising a family. His scientific background now provides an unusual foundation for his artistic exploration, where experimentation and discovery are as important as the finished composition.
At the heart of Gardner’s work is an interest in connection — between science and creativity, order and chaos, the physical and the emotional, and ultimately between the artwork and the person experiencing it. His pieces invite viewers to discover their own images, memories, and meaning within the abstraction.
Gardner’s work has been exhibited in hospitals, juried art festivals, and private collections, and he regularly donates pieces to charities and non-profits as fundraisers. He is the featured artist of Prescriptive Fine Art.

Glass & Functional Work
Tables and surfaces
The same poured process is applied to glass, producing side tables and surfaces. Sizes and palettes are made to order — of particular interest to designers specifying for a room.

Commissions
Interior designers · Collectors · Institutions
Work is commissioned for private residences, clinics, hospitals, and corporate interiors. Scale, palette, and format are developed for the specific wall — including multi-panel works for long spans — and every commission arrives ready to hang with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
For designers: the gallery works from a brief, a palette, a material sample, or a floorplan. Trade enquiries are welcome, and pieces can be produced to a specified size rather than chosen from stock.
Typical lead time is one to two months from agreement to delivery. Pricing depends on size and the materials requested, and is quoted per commission.
In Situ

Poured surfaces change with the light. A piece chosen for a room in daylight will read differently under lamps at night — something worth considering when siting a work.

How a Commission Works
From brief to wall
- A conversation about the space — wall dimensions, light, palette, and the feeling the room needs.
- Scale and format are agreed, including whether the work reads better as a single canvas or across panels.
- Panels are built, primed, and masked.
- The work is poured. Chemistry, heat, and material decide much of the detail; the composition is directed, not dictated.
- Curing, finishing, and delivery — ready to hang, with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Allow one to two months overall.
Material Studies
Experiments from the studio
Colour, pooling, repelling agents, heat, and glass — working images rather than finished pieces. These experiments are where commissions begin.
